NEW TRANSFORMERS CARTOON

At first glance I thought that the executives of Loonatics must of gotten their hands on the Transformers IP. But then I looked at it again, it's not bad at all, I hear people complaining, but it's pretty modern looking at least and good art.

Andy Coyle, a Fatkat Director says it best:

Be wary of complaining when you see things like this. I agree, it’s not quite transformers, but these are awesome drawings and cool designs… does anybody remember what happened to the “loonatics”?

Yes, it was a horrible idea, but at least the original version had a modicum of coolness woven into the art. Then after angry nerds cried and screamed bloody murder they changed it into one of the worst things I’ve ever seen. Don’t make them do that to transformers too.

PUN OF THE WEEK - BY NEVEN NESIC

Yet another pun and let me tell you, this one is a real “DISASTER”. I think we all deserve one of these and from my understanding Gene is ordering 12 of them so we can commemorate and honor all those over achievers at Fatkat. Enjoy!

GOBELINS Annecy 2007 Submissions

What are they feeding these guys!?!

Honestly, this is some killer work! I've gone frame by frame, over and over again, and honestly, it stills boggles my mind.

My hats off to the graduating class as well as all the instructors that instill passion and devotion, (but honestly, I think that's a prerequisite when you're in this business...but that's between you and me and the lamp post.)

GOBELINS ANNECY 2007 SUBMISSIONS

DOING THINGS!

A comic for a book review I've done in the upcoming issue of Progress Magazine. The review was of Alexander Kjerulf's book called "Happy hour is from 9 to 5". A book about how the future of business will be filled with happy people, happy businesses and more creative, free wheeling management styles.

I thought, that's just like fatkat is now. So I decided to draw myself interviewing someone for a job.

I dunno, perhaps the idea is out to lunch, who knows. I kinda dig how the illo came out though. I haven't done alot of drawing in the past months. Feels good.

how'd I do? How can I improve it?

LIFE DRAWING A GO GO | DAN HELLE

Thanks for the pic, Tucker Cooke.

K, so I got a peek at the space we can use for Lifedrawing and it’s amazing, huge carpeted room, stage, lighting…and only a block away from work!

Stef is arranging models and we can start next week. I’m thinking Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9 or 10. Anybody got any beef with that, just lemme know. (leave a comment) But I’m pretty sure that’s probably the best time for everyone tho…middle of the week seems good to me.

I will be collecting money from today until Monday. Everyone interested can pony up 10 bucks each and we’ll use that money for the models and when it runs out, we’ll pool up some more. If you pay, but do not attend all or any of the sessions, regardless of the reason, do not expect a refund.

People will have to provide their own transportation, paper, drawing surface, and possibly chair (im hoping they have them there). There are no drawing horses so be warned that you’ll probably have to use the floor, unless you have your own easel or something.

If anyone has any concerns or questions lemme know, if not, ill be collecting money starting immediately, what ever we collect Gene has said he will match that.

Also for the first little while there will be no working plumbing there, so if you need the bathroom, go before, or walk back to work, also bring your own water.

Dan Helle.

__________

We should start a fund to get some life drawing tools! - I'll match that too!

YouTube Remixer

Hey Kittens!

Here's some technology news for ya!

YouTube just released REMIXER! The days of online editing (that's right, online, not the online editing you're probably thinking) days are here!

Try it out! It actually works pretty well, not as well as a full featured as After Effects or Final Cut, but still...ONLINE!

Crazy days are ahead of us!

GOOD FOR A LAUGH

I'm sorry, I know the transformers movie hype is big, but these are grown men and women, and they're completely ridiculous.

I haven't laughed this hard in awhile.

Modest Mouse Missed the Boat video contest

It only seems fitting to writting about a mouse, and a modest mouse at that on a kat blog and a fat one at that...

Check out this wonderful video by Max Tyrie for the Apple video contest!

This was his submission in the Apple Music Video competition. And what a great entry!

Here's what Max went on to say about this project:

"Using green screen footage provided by the band we cut a simple music video. We then degraded the images and printed out each frame sequentially. (all 4133 of them) We then nailed each "shot" of 50-100 posters to various structures and posts. Then using a digital SLR camera with a long exposure we frame by frame shot each poster. Oh, and theres a little video projection (again, frame by frame on the SLR) just to mix it up. There is no compositing, no shortcuts, just lots of blood, sweat and tears, and a huge Kinkos bill!"

Very well done, and I guess the KISS approach is sometimes better than what we would all expect.

Have a good one!

GET YOUR BUTTS TO FRENCH FORT COVE

Loads of fun at French Fort Cove here in Miramichi. Great for biking, hiking or just walking around. There's also Kayak and Canoe rentals. Great fun and challenging trails even for the fittest of fiddles (as shown above). Here's a note from Scott Campbell.

Hello everyone,

It is now official, the second annual 4HoFFC will be held on Sunday, September 23rd!

Last year was a great success but this year should see many more entrants. I have attached a revised information poster and will include a registration form shortly @ www.velo.nb.ca

DOWNLOAD DRAFT MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAIL MAP

The first 50 entrants will be getting an early bird prize!

For those of you who are local but not participating we will need many volunteers to make this a success, it will be a great experience for you too. We need on course safety and check point people. We need First Aid and communications equipment. We will need a couple of people for registration and a BBQ to raise money for the Miramichi Mountain Bike Club where we will be having hots & hams of the meat and meatless varieties.

I have also attached a Draft copy of our trail map; the course will be as follows;

Start/Finish will be on trail 21 heading to 16, from 16 turning left to trail 14 then right on 5 (this will be the only change from last year reducing the amount of NB Trail) across 52 and onto 7. From 7 to 9 returning on 11, 13 and 2.

Please forward this to all your friends,

Scott D. Campbell

SUPA STRIKAS | GOOOAL!

Internet lines between Miramichi, Canada & Cape Town, South Africa just got a lot busier!

Cape Town’s Strika Entertainment and Miramichi’s Fatkat have just inked a deal that has both studios banding together to produce the new animated series “Supa Strikas” (13 x 22 minutes), based on Strika Entertainment’s popular comic book of the same name. The Supa Strikas comic book has a readership of 10,000,000 people across 14 countries, distributing in excess of 1.3 million comics every month… and those numbers are growing.

Supa Strikas have always been a successful and much loved club but things have just stepped up a gear. Supa Strikas have qualified to play in the world’s Super League, the ultimate prize for any soccer club and boyhood dream of any player.

Supa Strikas revolves around a talented young striker, Shakes, and his steady rise to the legendary No.10 position for the very team and number his late father held. – Supa Strikas! Shakes must answer the questions left by his father’s legacy and ensure that he continues to deliver the one thing that matters most… Goals!

“We’re excited about banding together with our pals at Strika Entertainment, the comics are great and the translation of them to TV is going to be a lot of fun, you should see the first episode!” - Gene Fowler, CEO of Fatkat.

The production partnership has Strika Entertainment executing with Big Hug Productions on the scripts, while they handle the initial design, storyboards and post production processes. Dacapo Productions has been tapped for Sound Design and Fatkat follows up with design of characters, props, backgrounds, assembly and animation in both Flash and Maya.

“It’s very rewarding to finally see the Supa Strikas characters come alive on the small screen! We look forward to a very successful alliance with Fatkat!” -Oliver Power, Executive Producer of Supa Strikas.

The first full 22 minute episode will be available for screenings at Mip Junior and Mipcom in October 2007.

Lovies,

gene.

PS: With Big Show producing and Pat Proulx directing, this show is going to look amazing!!

Masking Tutorial to prevent ballzups from new coming flash type gentlemen.

A thirsty fellow popped into a tea shop and demanded refreshment.

The owner gave him a cup. 'this cup is empty said the man, what use is that?'

the tea shop owner said 'without the emptiness the cup has no use'.

'More buns please' said an elephant at table four

Another Great Article from Animation Mentor

Here's another great, and I do mean GREAT article by Shawn Kelly (animation instructor at Animation Mentor). This man is so passionate about his work and why he does what he does!

Enjoy the Read!

And if you're not signed up for their newsletter do so now! Every month there is deadly tips for not only animating your scene better but to good books, reference, and even some of the students short films! AND not only to mention tips and tricks from the men and women that animate our favourite movies from Pixar to Disney, to ILM!

How can you go wrong?

COMING TO A GALAXY NEAR YOU! Preferably a television set to be honest...

Alright, I know, I know, there's been a lot of Star Wars postings recently, but that's only because the umpteenth celebration is upon us...Which one? I don't know, but irregardless, the powers that be, and chair heads of Fox think we need more Star Wars! (I'd rather have more cow bell but that's between you and me and the fire hydrant)

So here you have it!

FAMILY GUY DOES STAR WARS IV!!!

It's been awhile since I've actually been excited about a re-make...And this might be just the one...

Tell me what you think! (Besides, with my Jedi mind powers are becoming more clouded everyday, I think there is a Sith among us...)
