Spider-man 3 Behind the mask!

Mernin Kitten(s)!

Upon my journeys across the many seas and deserts I found myself on an deserted isle that was full of riches and knowledge to behold. The knowledge that was found was both exciting and frightening as such could decide battles of which has not yet come. Animation, compositing and rendering together created such a seamless amalgamation into a profound beauty that is to be seen!

THE SECRET LIES WITHIN!

Enjoy!

HEATHER KENYON VISITS FATKAT

Last thursday we were delighted to finally have Heather Kenyon kick it old school here in the Miramichi. Heather came up to not only come see what Fatkat's been up to, but also to speak at the local animation college - NBCC Miramichi - here in the city.

During her talk at the college, I took some notes, would you like? Yes, thank you.

I met Heather back in 1998 at the Ottawa International Animation Festival and have met her at almost every single event that I've been to in the years since then. Man, that girl travels alot.

Keith Dury and Heather posing for some pics. Last year Keith and Heather met for the first time at the OIAF.

Tracy Fernandez and Heather have become good chums throughout all the conferences.

NBCC Miramichi - Animation Instructor (and good pal of mine) Ricky Knowles and Heather pose it up.

PUN OF THE WEEK - BY NEVEN NESIC

YAY! We win again!

Mornin' Kats and Kittens!

The Top 50 CEO awards are Atlantic Business Magazine's annual salute to corporate leadership and excellence! Can you think of anyone that deserves that award here at the litter box?

hmmm...Maybe, our very own GENE FOWLER!

Yup, that's right, WE WON AGAIN! Man, are we ever on a streak now! But seriously, I can't think of a better man that should win that award. To stop and think about it, I've been with Gene for 3 years now, and I don't only look up to the poor bugger as boss, but as a man I can respect and learn from. He is one of those guys that not only push the boundaries with our personal bubbles, but also drives and pushes this industry that we're all apart of!

Here's some pics of the trip down, and around the event!

(And I thought Nikki was bad!)

WOAH! Am I seeing double? Nah, I guess I just see two smart dressers! Keep it classy Dougie!

Classic Dunn always trying to strike a deal!
Cheers to you too Nickers! WOW! Look at all that CHEESE!
BAM!
Wow, all those people, how prestigious! And even a band!

Good to see that Gene and the suits still know how to have a good time! ;)

LET THE FLAMEWARS BEGIN!

Last week Razor sent up a gift (the framed picture above) It was a gift, but also a jab at us, sort of. We won another award, so they thought it'd be funny to have a naked picture of me with a title of "Keep the streak alive!" - here's to the continued growth! - with an arrow pointing to my nether-regions.

So in keeping with that theme, I thought I'd do the same and pay them back. With the help of Keith Dury - (the very artist that did the naked cartoon body above) and Dallas Daigle, we put an ad in the local Moncton Newspaper for Razor to help them find some more fine artists to joing their amazing ad agency! See below.

Revenge is mine Rich & Steve!

MUAHAHAH!!!

PUN OF THE WEEK - BY NEVEN NESIC

To everyone’s bitter disappointment, I have been unable to deliver a pun last week. Or the week before I think… I know… how could I? That’s why I tried extra hard for this week’s pun. Now that doesn’t mean that its going to be extra funny! I just tried extra hard. I cant say that it wasn’t fun working on it, because it was lots of fun working on it. I want to thank Justin Coffee for giving me advice on this one!

THE SKINNY ON A FATKAT | VALERIE CORMIER

Valerie Cormier is vastly becoming an emerging artistic weapon here at Fatkat. Not only can the girl draw like the wind, but she can also sculpt and animate too. A true bringer of life! To celebrate her and her work I decided to bring back "The Skinny on a Fatkat" series. So once a week I'll be hitting some of the crew up for some art and conversation.

Valerie, believe it or not has just joined our krew this past winter and surprisingly enough, she's slapped Keith Dury in the face at least a dozen times since. Amazing!

Some of Valerie's drawings, so much fun.

Valerie's usually pretty focused at work and quietly works away on her deliciousness, but once in awhile you can finder her doing silly things.

Here's a recent MSN conversation with Valerie:

GENE- FATKAT says (2:45 PM):

How long have you been working at Fatkat?

VALERIE CORMIER says (2:45 PM):

3 months

GENE- FATKAT says (2:46 PM):

Nice, we love you too Val' you're great!

What are you working on right now?

VALERIE CORMIER says (2:46 PM):

supernormals ep.133

GENE- FATKAT says (2:46 PM):

Ah yes SuperNormal, that's a cool show.

VALERIE CORMIER says (2:46 PM):

yessss

GENE- FATKAT says (2:46 PM):

how do you find it?

GENE- FATKAT says (2:47 PM):

Do you find it hard?

VALERIE CORMIER says (2:47 PM):

At the beginning, omg, yes for sure, but right now, it's a bit easier

GENE- FATKAT says (2:48 PM):

I remember when you started, you've come along way, you should be proud of yourself!

VALERIE CORMIER says (2:49 PM):

yeah but I have a lot to learn

I'm not done

GENE- FATKAT says (2:49 PM):

A true Artist never is!

VALERIE CORMIER says (2:50 PM):

lol you're right

GENE- FATKAT says (2:50 PM):

Why did you start drawing on those little cards? They're amazing by the way, I love your art.

VALERIE CORMIER says (2:53 PM):

thanks I dont really know why I start drawing on small cards, I remember one day, I looked at some flyers and I saw a little book where you can put business cards, and I the book was cool, so I baught it and begin to put my smaller draws in it

GENE- FATKAT says (2:53 PM):

well, they're lovley!

Very inspiring!

I love chainsaw kitty

VALERIE CORMIER says (2:54 PM):

and I just kept drawing to fill my book, and I hated drawing small, so it was like a test for me

GENE- FATKAT says (2:54 PM):

nice, always like a challenge eh?

VALERIE CORMIER says (2:54 PM):

thanks me 2 I like chainsaw kitty lol

yess

GENE- FATKAT says (2:55 PM):

heheheh - I'd love for you to do a big painting of him here on one of the walls of the studio. I'll supply the paint! Now I just have to convince Doug to let you off of SuperNormal for a day to do it!

VALERIE CORMIER says (2:55 PM):

OMG sure I'm ready at anytime

GENE- FATKAT says (2:56 PM):

Awesome!

VALERIE CORMIER says (2:56 PM):

yeah wall painting

GENE- FATKAT says (2:56 PM):

HAHAH!!

So Val', what is something you'd like to change here at Fatkat? It can be ANYTHING at all.

VALERIE CORMIER says (2:57 PM):

to change........ ......

GENE- FATKAT says (2:57 PM):

yeah... ANYTHING!

VALERIE CORMIER says (2:57 PM):

I'm kinda happy the way fatkat is right now

VALERIE CORMIER says (2:58 PM):

the other day, I was thinking to put a big slide where is the poopdeck, to slide down from the poop deck

GENE- FATKAT says (2:58 PM):

hahaha!

I'm with you on that one sister!

VALERIE CORMIER says (2:58 PM):

GENE- FATKAT says (2:58 PM):

VALERIE CORMIER says (2:58 PM):

GENE- FATKAT says (2:59 PM):

Morning Kittens!

The Visual Effects Society published its list of top 50 most influential

some of which really blew my mind!

Here they are!

Maybe one day we'll get something up there!

FATKAT TAKES OVER THE GAME SUMMIT

Fatkat is starting to step into the interactive region of entertainment. Baby steps really, but still we're starting to get our feet wet in the R&D aspect.

To help with our initiative into this new realm, Fatkat sent our very own in house gamer/Animation Director John Roth to sunny Vancouver to check out the 2007 Vancouver Game Summit.
Jerome Kashetsky (on the left) pictured here with the lovley Janet Jackson invited us out this year. He was so excited that Fatkat was thinking about getting into gaming that he helped pay our way! (well, not really, he gave Jon some gum)

Jon schmoozed with gaming executives, slid in with government folks, talked to students about Fatkat and even caught a cold while he was there (thanks for bringing that back Jon)

All in all it was a good trip and Jon brought back alot of information on getting into the gaming side of things for Fatkat. Atta boy Jon, makin' us proud yo!

Gene.

Tips and Tricks

Here's a great read and a even better tip from this month's "Tips and Tricks: With Shawn Kelly" from Animation Mentor.

Rise Above the Snobbery

We all have to start out somewhere. No matter where we start out at, what we do in life has to be with passion and with that passion we can rise above our errors and failures. Believe in yourself and enjoy what you have but don't forget to aspire and want something that's out of your reach, set a goal and achieve it!

PREPARE TO BOARD!

I've been personally awaiting a book of this magnitude about Storyboarding for a really long time. I talked to Nancy a few weeks ago and thanked her personally for this book. She's a really cool lady and a hell of an artist. I can't wait to work with her! (yes, that's a hint!)

Get it, read it, tell her what you think!

Much love,
