HAPPY FATOWEEN PART 01

This Halloween at Fatkat was the best yet, with a record number of folks participating. I totally winced out and buggered off. I'm a loser, but the fine folks below sure as hell are not. Go check it out, I'll wait here.

Milky and Wynne teamed up to form the lead characters of the Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi show.

These guys deserved to win.

Keith Fukumoto rocks out as the lead character from the series we're working on with the folks at World Leader's Entertainment. Eric Normal. Great costume!

Dave, I mean Peter Parker.

Michaud is so loaded even the camera went blurry.

Obi wan St.Pierre, the french Canadian Jedi Master.

I love this expression! Party on Patrick Proulx!

Long Jon Animation Director, Isn't it hard to animate with those gloves on?

Man what a bunch of hilarity. I love coming to work, these guys make it so fun.

HAPPY TREE FRIENDS | TITLE ACTION

Go here and check out some of the great title work that Ghostbot pulled off for Season one of Happy Tree Friends.

Awesome concept.

STRESS BREAKER MONDAY!

Animation is a stressful business. Deadlines usually come to soon and the struggle for most to find the balance of quality and quantity in their work everyday can leave many on the edge of burnout. What better way to take out some stress and frusterations then to have a stress breaker Monday! So at Fatkat last week we did just that.

To kick it all off we had a massage therapist come in and rub down some humps that have been forming on the backs of animators.

Not sure how Andrew Dunn snuck in there.

Oh well, might as well take a silly picture of him.

This one is great! - Nice Sean you look like you have boxing gear on or something!

Elder fell asleep.

Keith was all smiles, until he let a little poot out. Totally grossed out the therapist. Atta boy Keith!

After some rub down and a staff meeting with some great announcements (will let the kat out of the bag later this week) we went out side to smash some pinatas!

We couldn't have picked better faces to tape onto these buggers then the administration. Here's Big Show.

Gangsta Nikki.
And Gene Buzz Ears

Blindfolds on!

Justin hammers. This swing by Sean sent my pinata into orbit. Atta boy Sean!Coyle took his anger out on his own pinata. I think someone has issues.

Everyone donated 50 cents and had a chance to smash some faces. Even Doug's son Blake took a swing, although he kept hitting Nikki in the face and cursing like a sailor with every rage filled blast.

Everyone seemed to have a good chuckle...

...and everyone got candy!

More silly soon!

MILKY IS FAMOUS!

Atta boy Milky, yer ugly mug right on the front page of yesterday's Telegraph Journal! Good on ya! I love how they continue to use your nickname instead of your real name. Hilarious! The Fatkat way is infectious!

{UPDATE}

Paid to be a big kid: local man’s dream job in animation studio

By Caitlin McIntyre
The News

Michael Frenette is a kid at heart. At 23, he still hasn’t given up on his lifelong love for comic books, action figures and cartoons.

And so it’s only fitting that the Westville native pursued a career in animation. As head animator for a new computer animated TV show called Supernormal, a super hero show that will debut in England sometime next year, he now gets paid to be a big kid.

Frenette works at FatKat Animation Studios in Miramichi, which is the animation studio behind Supernormal.

It’s a dream job for Frenette, who says he has over 1,000 Transformer figurines crowded on shelves in his bedroom.

“This is what I’ve always wanted to do. I can’t imagine doing anything else,” he said in an interview recently.

Frenette is vague on the details, but he did reveal that he and a team of about 20 staff members are currently animating 52 episodes of Supernormal, a children’s show. They create about two eleven-minute shows a week, which is standard in the painstakingly long process of computer animation.

Frenette describes the animation style for the show as “Warner Brothers-like,” meaning the animation runs at a quick, and somewhat frantic, pace. He has plenty of responsibilities as head animator, but he isn’t complaining. After all, he said he likes to have creative control.

Frenette graduated from the digital animation program at Nova Scotia Community College In Truro in 2004. He briefly worked at Wetsand Animation in Dartmouth where he was an animator for Carl Squared, a cartoon show on Teletoon.

Eventually, he transferred to FatKat in search of bigger projects and more creative freedom. At such a young age, he has already achieved great success. But for now, he’s looking forward to the challenges he’ll face while working on his latest project.

FatKat Animation Studio specializes in two-dimensional digital animation, and animators have contributed to popular cartoon show like Caillou, Carl Squared and Odd Job Jack. The studio has seen tremendous growth since it was established in 2003, while high-profile companies like Toyota and Microsoft are among the list of clients.

With a party....we honour you dearest of Ghettos

Werd up....folks?
So there was a party....and at this party there were people....but not just any people....
Pimped out people.
Ghetto people, if you will.

Ladies and Gentlemen
this is the Ghetto Party:

I'm not aware at what point this picture was taken....but it's amazingly funny for reasons I don't even have to explain.
Nikki....Kudos......Kudos for being awesome.

This is my buddy Neil......regularly Neil isn't terrifying.....this night proved different.

I spent upwards to 10 minutes trying to think of a comment for this picture.

Congratulations Pat. Your picture robbed me of words.

What amazed me most about this picture isn't the colt 45, the cowboy hat, the facial hair or the handcuff jewelery (which is also impressive)....it's the half shirt of fake tatoos that blows my mind.

Brilliant.

I forgot to mention that this party was catered by every sandwich I ever had in grade 3

Not only was this a ghetto party...but it was also a 'dress up like easter fell in a puddle of shiney frat boy' party.

This picture makes me think that Oliver had car waiting outside that was full of ground effects and worth more than my apartment.

THE most ghetto person in this picture, by far, is Liz in the jean jacket....why?

because she's wearing jean.....jean jacket instantly makes you the baddest of asses.

What makes this picture ever so ghetto...is Germ and his game of apples.

NOTHING....is more ghetto than a card game that no one has ever heard of.

and if you know someone who knows this game they're either: super ghetto...or lying.

probablly lying.

and like any ghetto party

this one ends with some pus....*ahem*......kitty!

cheers

WHERE THERE IS ONE THERE IS TWO

Just this past week my wife and I were talking about the company a bit, we're doing really well, plenty of work, rapid expansion and what not. I got to thinking about the old days when Tara and I were working for Trainingscape, we'd walk to work together, see each other throughout the day in the halls, send silly emails to eachother - We worked in seperate locations mind you - but we shared the experience you know?

I love the woman to no end, over the last 15 years she's been with me through hard times and good times. She's funny as hell and keeps me grounded. So what better way to help manage our growth at the studio while getting to spend more time with her then asking her to come back to work with me at Fatkat; and she said yes!

So now Tara who was always the real president anyway, gets to step in as the new Communications and Standards Officer. She'll be helping us streamline the way we do things individually as well as between the different departments and crews here at Fatkat. Filing systems, how we communicate with eachother as well as helping to organize current and future productions and crews.

Please help me make her welcome around the studio yo!

Much Love,

Gene
